Worry Dragons: Coping Skills for Children with Anxieties

At the Vancouver Learning Centre, in addition to Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT) procedures for managing behaviour, we use a program called Coping Skills for Children with Anxieties (Learning How to Tame Worry Dragons) by Sandra L. Clark PhD.

This is a process for changing dysfunctional and negative thinking patterns that cause children and even youth to worry.

The process is proactive and can be fun. It deals with concerns like shyness (social phobia dragon), habits (obsessive compulsive dragon), and general or specific fears.

The idea is to stop the worrying thoughts and to change negative self-talk to positive talk.

At the Vancouver Learning Centre, if anxieties are a part of the problem preventing success, the Worry Dragon program can be included with the general program.
